Congress Approves Measure to Release Jeffrey Epstein Documents

The Senate on Tuesday quickly approved to legislation that will force the release of investigative files concerning the deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, following a overwhelming vote in the House of Representatives and a shift by Donald Trump and his GOP allies. The administration changed course after months of trying to delay the cross-party initiative involving a case that has plagued the president since his return to the White House.

Unanimous Approval in Congress

The Senate acted by general agreement, which requires approval from each senator but does not require a recorded vote, speeding up the process. Hours earlier, the House overwhelmingly approved the bill on a near-unanimous vote.

The public have waited long enough. The survivors have waited long enough,” the top Senate Democrat declared in a floor speech on Tuesday, before urging the Senate to pass it unanimously. “Reveal the truth. Let transparency reign.”

Presidential Signature

The bill next goes to Trump for his signature. He stated on the previous day that he would approve the bill.

Although Trump has for months rejected the uproar over the government’s handling of the investigation as a “false narrative”, he voiced approval for the House bill over the weekend, and said he would approve it if it comes to him.

Support and Opposition

The Democratic party, along with those affected and their advocates who were present in a public section, cheered after the bill was passed. The sole “no” vote came from a Louisiana Republican, who stated he was concerned the measure would disclose identifying details of witnesses, those under scrutiny and others caught up in the investigation.
