R&B Xmas Concert Review: An Heartfelt Journey Returning to the Nineties
The yearly R&B Xmas Ball showcased a roster of artists renowned for their Christmas records. Instead of focusing on carols, the night acted as a sentimental excuse for a trip back to the earnest and heart-rending style of 1990s R&B.
Opening Acts: Classic Feelings
The group Dru Hill presented classic R&B in matching attire, with music videos from the 2000s displaying behind them. Following this, a set of mostly slow jams from Joe prepared the audience for the headlining acts.
The Powerful Set
The opening of the song Last Last skillfully segued into He Wasn’t Man Enough, connecting Braxton's artistic heritage. Initially, her show with a live band appeared anchored in the era of her greatest fame.
Then, deep into her set, she spoke about her battles with lupus and being told she might not perform live again. Performing Breathe Again in a single spotlight, she delivered a profoundly heartfelt moment. “For as long as I live, I will never forget tonight,” she declared sincerely.
