Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a major film company and bringing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
